Comment:
Its very sad that IDP has decided not to participate in the all-party talks on the grounds that foreigners are involved. Considering the ideals for which party stands, it seems that its all the more important that it should participate in these talks for the very reason that there is a foreign involvement. Given that IDP claims that it is determined to prevent any unislamic influence to be \'imported\' in the name of democratic reform, it should not standby and watch while events are happening which has the possibility of such influences being imposed on the political system. The government has already revealed that the consitution will be drafted by commonwealth experts. IDP should be in a position to observe and influence this process, walking away would not be living upto the ideals it represents and to the courage shown by the founders of the party to date.

IDP Response:

Thanks for your comment,
IDP is not walking away from the process, infact we are talking to Commonwealth and giving our input to the process.
What we are against is the process, where Maldives is portrayed as a country with political problems where Commonwealth has to step in to solve.
Thanks
